Sharing Rosh Hashanah with our senior citizens

\The Jewish Pavilion is in the process of providing Rosh Hashanah services to over 50 Senior Nursing Homes/Assisted Living/Rehabilitation Centers/Independent Living in the Central Florida area. These services bring the Jewish New Year's traditions into senior facilities where residents dip apples into honey, eat honey cake and raisin challah-all to celebrate and wish for a Sweet New Year. The sound of the Shofar typically concludes these services, which are open to all faiths.

Shown here are Lake Bennett Health & Rehab resident Helen; Mandy Bennett of VITAS; and Myra, daughter of Helen; with Program Director Gloria Green at Lake Bennett Health & Rehab.

Community members often wonder where they can find the Jewish Pavilion, a non-profit organization that serves seniors of all faiths in elder facilities throughout Greater Orlando. The Jewish Pavilion is not a home for the elderly, but a resource that provides Jewish cultural support and companionship to over fifty facilities for seniors in long-term care, with the help of its 350 volunteers and its small staff. The Pavilion is a "mobile" community center that brings holidays and programming right to the resident's door, helping ensure that no senior grows old all alone.
