JFS scholarship to local high schooler

Silvia Huaman

JFS Orlando distributed the 2016 Kobrin Scholarship to local Seminole High School student, Silvia Huaman. This annual scholarship of $2,000 is awarded to one deserving and academically successful student who will be starting college at the University of Central Florida (UCF) this year. The Kobrin family established an endowment fund in memory of Harvey and Philip Kobrin's parents and through their financial generosity JFS Orlando is able to distribute these scholarships since 1990.

Huaman boasts a very impressive academic record, earning a 4.55 GPA, and devoting her spare time to volunteering in her community with organizations such as Central Florida Regional Hospital and Hispanic Health Initiative. She will start UCF this fall and is majoring in biomedical sciences with aspirations to become an orthopedic surgeon.

"I am so grateful to JFS Orlando for selecting me as the recipient of the 2016 Kobrin Scholarship," said Huaman. "My strong desire to pursue medicine as a career is made possible due in large part to such supportive people and organizations like JFS Orlando."

JFS Orlando is proud to administer these funds to help deserving students who have demonstrated academic achievement and promise, financial need and community involvement.
