Obituary - DR. MELVIN TRESSER

 


Dr. Melvin Tresser, age 85, of Orlando, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at Hospice of The Comforter in Altamonte Springs. Dr. Tresser was born in Brooklyn, New York, on Oct. 31, 1931, to the late Max and Hannah Levy Tresser. He received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his medical degree from New York University and served in the United States Air Force.

On Feb. 11, 1956, in New York, he and his late wife, Bella, were married. She passed away on Nov. 9, 2015, after nearly 60 years of marriage.

Following Mel’s active military service in Selma, Ala., and a short return to the New York area, the family relocated to Orlando in 1962, where he established a medical practice in gastroenterology and internal medicine.

Mel and Bella joined Congregation of Reform Judaism in 2005 following a long-time membership at Temple Israel.

Dr. Tresser is survived by his son, Steven (Patrice) Tresser of Tampa; and his daughters, Debra (Ken) Wilner of Nashua, N.H., and Andrea (Jeff) Burke of San Jose, Calif. He is also survived by his grandchildren Adam Wilner, Josh Tresser, Elana Wilner, Cary Tresser, Aliza Tresser, Mia Burke, Lauren Tresser and Harrison Burke.


A funeral service, with military honors, was held at Congregation of Reform Judaism, with Rabbi Steven W. Engel officiating. A private burial followed at Temple Israel Cemetery. In memory of Dr. Melvin Tresser, the family requests contributions to Hospice of the Comforter, 605 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs 32714.
