Florida Region AZA and BBG reunion planned for Orlando June 30 - July 2

It was the summer before ninth grade and I was invited to a BBG and AZA membership party at the home of the Behr family. The home was filled with other kids new to B’nai Brith, as well as members that we met and learned from about the opportunity to be part of this organization and its legacy. In the year that followed, I attended many meetings and learned everything I could about BBG (B’nai Brith Girls) and the boys group AZA. I also attended a couple of conventions in North Florida Council. These conventions confirmed that I had made the right decision to join this amazing organization. Four years of fun, friendships, community service (tikkun olam), citizenship, philanthropy, leadership skills and Jewish heritage were instilled at every meeting and convention. The sisterhood and brotherhood was so strong that many of the friends I have today, were friends that I met in B’nai Brith as a 14-year-old.

When I put out the word that a Florida Region Reunion was taking place in Orlando this summer, I began hearing from Alumni BBG and AZA members that now live all over the country that want to be here. Many of us have grown children and some have grandchildren, but those memories that we shared back in the 1970s are so vivid that being together to sing songs and share our memories and memorabilia will bring us together this summer.

We are trying to reach all AZA and BBG members from the memberships years of 1969—1983 in Florida Region. A reunion has been planned for the weekend of June 30—July 2, 2017.  If you are on Facebook join the group page Florida Region BBYO 1969-1980 for information. All hotel needs, dinners and activities have been planned for the weekend, and will be in the Altamonte Springs and Orlando area, if you would like to see old friends and make new memories you may also contact e-mail: rbloom1@cfl.rr.com for more information.

So far, alumni are coming in from Georgia, Texas, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and all over Florida. Remember the fun conventions, the brother and sisterhood, the singing, the dancing and the laughs. Bring your memorabilia and join in the fun!!

Robyn B. Heyman is the former Robyn Galkin, who has served as president of Orlando Waldflowers BBG, Sweetheart of Orlando Rebels AZA and North Florida Council Programming vice president 1974-1975.
