Women’s Philanthropy of the Jewish Federation of North America is pleased to honor Harriett Lake as the recipient of the Kipnis-Wilson Friedland Award. Established in 2004 in honor of Lion of Judah founders Norma Kipnis-Wilson and Toby Friedland z”l, this award recognizes Jewish women who have made a positive, invaluable and lasting influence on their Jewish communities.

It is not a surprise that Lake is being awarded with this special recognition. She established the Lion of Judah Division in Orlando 35 years ago and since then has become one of the most driven philanthropists in Central Florida. Ina Porth, JFGO’s campaign chair affirms, “Harriett Lake was born with an active gene for caring! She has been caring for our Jewish community for over 40 years. We could never thank her enough. This national award is one way we can show her how much her commitment to our community, to Israel and to Jews around the world means. Harriett is more than a great donor, she is an icon of philanthropy”.

The award ceremony will take place at the 2014 International Lion of Judah Conference in New York City. Lions from around the world come together at the conference to hear from some of today’s most influential speakers on issues affecting our Jewish community at home and abroad. The event will be held Sept. 7-10, 2014.

Past featured speakers at the ILOJ conference include Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Hillary Clinton, Tzipi Livni, Laura Bush, and a cadre of successful and inspirational Jewish women who are making a difference in Israel and in our Jewish communities. Sessions at the event address a myriad of critical issues including Business, Women and Charity; Family and Generational Philanthropy; Israel and Overseas; and Women’s Leadership.

The conference brings together Lions of Judah worldwide who are involved in the highest echelons of leadership and philanthropy in Jewish communities. The Lions are a diverse group of women philanthropists giving $5,000 or more to their local Federation.
