Obituary - SHIRLEY IRENE ROBBINS

 


Shirley Robbins of Oviedo, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at her residence. She was 90 years old. Mrs. Robbins was born in New York, New York, on Oct. 11, 1924 to the late Louis and Rose Hoffman Chaiet. After high school in New York, she attended and graduated from Hunter College and later earned her master’s in education from Long Island University.

Following her marriage her late husband, Dr. Albert Robbins, she was a first-grade teacher in New York for many years. They were married for 54 years when he passed away in December 2010. The family relocated to Fort Myers where Dr. Robbins had a chiropractic practice and was a president of Temple Beth El and Shirley taught Yiddish and Hebrew. She also, for a short time, was a special education teacher.

Mrs. Robbins was a two-time president of Hadassah and a past president of the Temple Sisterhood. She was also a program director for the Federation in Lee County. In 2009, Dr. and Mrs. Robbins relocated to the Orlando area to be closer to their daughter, Peggy, and her family.


Mrs. Robbins is survived by her son, Lenn (Amy) of New York; and daughters, Peggy (Dr. Stuart) Janousky of Oviedo and Judy Saunders of New York; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at Temple Beth El in Fort Myers with Rabbi Jeremy Barras officiating, followed by burial in the Temple Section of the Fort Myers City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, 640 Lee Road, Orlando 32810.
