Orlando Chapter of Hadassah is 67 years young and still growing

The Orlando Chapter of Hadassah was founded in 1948 by a group of Jewish women, new to the area, who desired a connection with Israel and the community. According to a long-time member, the meetings were initially held in Temple Israel where the women prepared the lunches for the meetings, wrote scripts as well as raised money for Hadassah. In 1966 the chapter had 450 members and the chapter had come a long way.

Today with a membership of over 850, Orlando’s Hadassah’s Chapter is strongly committed to the Hadassah Medical organization with its two hospitals in Jerusalem and to women’s health issues here in the U.S. In addition, Hadassah believes in building a world where Jewish values in action create a strong community and an enduring Israel.

The meetings are held monthly at Congregation Ohev Shalom. Not only is a catered lunch provided, but the chapter features programs that educate as well as entertain. One of their major fund-raising events is the annual Bunny Rosen Memorial Fashion Show, which will be held this year on March 1 at the Alfond Inn in Winter Park. The fashion show is open to everyone.

All Jewish women are invited to join the chapter and participate in fulfilling Hadassah’s mission, while at the same time meeting and socializing with women who are likewise committed.
