UCF Distinguished Lecturers Series presents Dr. Zev Garber

 

Dr. Zev Garber

"Teaching the Historical Jesus: A Teaching Lesson" will be the topic of the March 24, lecture by Prof. Zev Garber at UCF as part of the Judaic Studies Distinguished Lecturers Series. Dr. Zev Garber, Emeritus professor and chairman of Jewish Studies and Philosophy at Los Angeles Valley College, will speak at the UCF main campus in the Business Administration Building (BA1) Room 221 at noon.

Garber has devoted his prodigious teaching and writing energies to many important subjects: the Holocaust, Jewish-Christian relations, philosophy and theology, history and biblical interpretation. He has served as visiting professor of Religious Studies at University of California at Riverside, visiting Rosenthal professor of Judaic Studies at Case Western Reserve University. His leadership in the academic community includes longstanding and ongoing roles in the National Association of Professors of Hebrew. He has served as its treasurer, secretary, vice president, and president, editor of its newsletter and has organized regional and national meetings.


Garber's numerous publications include "Jesus in the Context of Judaism: Quest, Con-Quest, or Conquest?"(2010), "The Jewish Jesus: Revelation, Reflection, Reclamation" (2011), and "Teaching the Historical Jesus: Issues and Exegesis" (Routledge Press, December 2014). Also, "Methodology in the Academic Teaching of Judaism" (1986), "Methodology in the Academic Teaching of the Holocaust" (1988). His books on the Shoah include :Shoah: the Paradigmatic Genocide" (1994), "Shoah and Israeli Writing" (2005), "Post-Shoah Dialogues: Rethinking Our Texts Together" (2004), and "The Impact of the Shoah in America and in Jewish American Life"(2008).

The Judaic Studies Program, offers the Distinguished Lecturers Series to the UCF and Central Florida Community. This lecture is co-sponsored by Central Florida Hillel and is open to the public and is free of charge. Permits for parking should be secured through the yellow parking machines, available in the parking lots and garages, prior to the lecture.
