Jewish Pavilion celebrates with tee time and fashion in May

Ken Davis (l) and Eli Bercovici, co-chairmen of the Pavilion Golf Society Tournament taking place May 3, with Emiy Newman, senior specialist with the Pavilion's Orlando Senior Help Desk.

The first week in May will be a very merry one for the Jewish Pavilion. The organization, which is known for bringing a smile to the face of seniors, is hosting two fundraisers that fall just three days apart. Pavilion Executive Director Nancy Ludin shared, "It just so happened that our annual Fashion Show and Golf Society Tournament ended up being scheduled the same week, when the venues became available to us. Although our upcoming calendar is a little hectic, it's all for the benefit of our elders in long-term care. We thank the community for supporting our 'merry merry month of May,' and taking part in one or both of our events."

On Sunday, May 3, the Pavilion invites community members to tee up for a morning of golf, food and prizes at Alaqua Country Club to help support the Orlando Senior Help Desk. Now in its third year, the Orlando Senior Help Desk has offered guidance, information, and referrals on all matters of aging from compassionate social worker Emily Newman, who assists local families of all faiths. The Longwood social worker has served as a senior resource, dedicating herself to passing on reassuring advice to older adults and their family members as they navigate their way through the daunting senior maze. Newman pays close attention to the needs of her callers, who often phone the Help Desk in the midst of a crisis.

The third annual Pavilion Golf Society (PGS) Tournament will raise funds to increase the operational hours of the Help Desk, which is now staffed just a few days each week. The tournament will include breakfast beginning at 7:30 a.m., with shotgun at 8:30 a.m. There also will be lunch and prizes galore. PGS will honor Jewish Pavilion founders and golf aficionados, Sheryl and Julian Meitin.

On Wednesday, May 6, the Jewish Pavilion will end it fundraising season on a stylish note at its annual fashion show at Bloomingdales in Orlando, honoring Pavilion Friends board member Susan Livingstone. Ludin concluded, "Giving back to the community is always in fashion at the Pavilion. Thank you to everyone who has helped us helped us celebrate, volunteer, and raise funds on behalf of our seniors throughout the year, and for making this month 'the May the Merrier' and twice the fun."
