Yael Miller takes the cake at Pavilion's 'A Taste in the Park'

Cake artist, Yael Miller, of Ooga-Ooga Cake Art hand-sculpted this wedding cake.

Thanks to cake artist, Yael Miller, you can have your cake and decorate it too at "A Taste in the Park," sponsored by the Jewish Pavilion, on Sunday, Nov. 8 at the Maitland Civic Center-Venue on the Lake. The expert baker and owner of Ooga-Ooga! Cake Art will offer a one-half hour course in edible cupcake art to interested guests at the Pavilion's upcoming tasting event and Family Festival, taught in three consecutive time slots to accommodate guests arriving between noon and 3 p.m. Miller shared that the "make and take" cupcake class will combine food, fun, fondant and flower sculpting. She noted that baking skills are not required; attendees need only bring smiles and the desire to learn something new.

Jewish Pavilion marketing director Pam Ruben noted, "Yael Miller has generously donated her cake artistry to the Jewish community over the years, and her edible creations have wowed guests at countless galas, benefits, and bar-mitzvahs. She was the first person who came to mind when it came to professional cooking/baking demonstrations for A Taste in the Park. Thanks to Yael Miller, our event will definitely 'take the cake'."

Miller has been a supporter of the Jewish Pavilion's "A Walk in the Park" fundraiser for the past several years, where she and 17-year-old daughter, Dani, have made it a priority to "walk the walk" each year on behalf of the senior community. This year Miller carries her support to the Jewish Pavilion's newest fundraising venture, A Taste in the Park, which replaces the annual walk. Miller holds many local causes close to her heart, and frequently donates her culinary services to local charities in both the Jewish and secular communities. She stated, "If I can help I worthy cause like the Jewish Pavilion, I will do whatever I can." Most recently, she raised funds for breast cancer awareness by teaching a homemade pasta and sauces class to a group of local women.

Miller carries a full plate as owner of Ooga-Ooga! Cake Art and as a full-time student at Valencia College, where she is taking pastry chef courses as well as studying pastry management.

She shared that her coursework helps fulfill her passion, and has added to the depth and the breadth of her culinary offerings. Miller stated, "I'm grateful to have a family who has supported my passions, and that my passions can in turn help the community."
