Three cheers for good sense...

I read this in the current World Jewish Congress (WJC) digest. I was pleased and I am sure you will be too. I pass it along:

"The World Jewish Congress hailed a recent decision by the General Convention of the Episcopal Church in the United States to reject a motion endorsing the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

WJC thanked the Episcopal Church Convention for lending its support to Israel on this issue and for taking a moral stand, expressing the hope that other major church denominations in America will follow this example and stop the BDS movement in its tracks.

The Episcopal Church has around 1.8 million members across the United States.

'Endorsing BDS does nothing to improve the plight of the Palestinians, in particular not of those employed by Israeli companies in the West Bank,' said WJC President Ambassador RONALD S. LAUDER. 'Endorsing BDS also doesn't contribute to ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. All it does is to sow division and hatred. The BDS movement won't bring peace and justice to the Middle East; that will only come once the Palestinians and their supporters choose cooperation over confrontation.'

WJC also welcomed the decision of the delegates at the Mennonite Church USA to delay a vote on divestment from Israel until their next assembly in 2017.

Earlier, the General Synod of the United Church of Christ (UCC) voted in favor of divestment from Israel."

Remembering Jewish history...

On Oct. 16, 2004, following approval by unanimous consent by both houses of the United States Congress, then President GEORGE W. BUSH signed into law the Global Anti-Semitism Review Act requiring the State Department to create a special office to monitor anti-Semitism worldwide and to submit annual reports to Congress.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Musical Ensemble will entertain. This will surely be a day to salute the wonderful and talented soldiers of the IDF.

On Sunday, Nov. 8 there is a wonderful place to go for fabulous food, entertainment, children's activities and much more... and it all benefits seniors in our community!

"A Taste in the Park," sponsored by the Jewish Pavilion, is the name of the event. It takes place from noon until 3 p.m. at the Lake Maitland Civic Center.

Featured will be food galore, a kid's Zone, entertainment and prizes, with proceeds going to enhance the lives of our elders.

Advance purchases are as follows: $15 per person; $40 for families of four; ($5 for each additional child.)

Keep the great mood going...

I know. I know. I've complained about this show in the past because the divas were (and still are) much better looking than me!

But I attend every year anyway and I never come away disappointed.

Mr. KENNY LEE presents with BJ STEPHENS, "The Dazzling Divas, Tis the Season to Dream."

The spectacular show takes place on Sunday, Nov. 22 at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Orlando, 852 North Maitland Avenue, Maitland. The show starts at 1 p.m. in the afternoon.

Featured besides Kenny and BJ will be Geraldine Jones, Kaye Starr, Crystal Vahzz, Ramona and Reshae. All of the "ladies" are beautifully attired and super-talented... and I am soooooo envious. (Only kidding!)

This joke almost (almost!) hit home:

A frugal widow goes to the local newspaper to take out an obituary notice for her late husband.

"How much," she asks?

The man behind the counter answers, "one dollar per word."

She says "make it Bernstein died."

He promptly answers, "It's a five word minimum."

She nearly faints but collects herself.

"Very well," she responds, "make it Bernstein died. Volvo for sale."
