Barbara H. Elkes, PhD, age 64, passed away at her residence in Lake Mary on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015. Born in Lakewood, New Jersey, on May 9, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Elona Friedman Halpren. Barbara graduated from Lakewood High School and did her undergraduate work at the University of Central Florida earning a degree in Sociology and Anthropology. She also received her master’s degree in Counseling from UCF. She continued her education receiving another master’s in Organizational Development from The Fielding Institute in California and also earned her doctorate in Human and Organizational Systems from The Fielding Institute.

In Central Florida she was the director for Clinical Services for The Allen Group and also had her own private practice. In 1973, she and her husband, Edwin Elkes, and their family relocated to the Orlando area from Lakewood NJ. When they arrived in the area they joined Congregation Ohev Shalom and have been members there ever since.

In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by her son, David (Nancy) of Tampa; her daughter, Wendy Elkes of Sanford; her brother, Steven Halpren of Lake Mary; and two grandchildren.

A funeral service was held in the Pavilion at Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbi Aaron Rubinger officiating. In memory of Barbara H.
