WASHINGTON D.C.-In the wake of the Pulse Nightclub shooting, the worst mass shooting in our nation's history, Rep. Alan Grayson (FL-09) has introduced the Freedom From Fear Act that will reinstate the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, which Congress allowed to expire in 2004.
For the Congressman this attack was close to home: many of the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting lived in his district. There were 49 people murdered and 53 wounded in a matter of minutes. The gunmen used a semi-automatic weapon making it easy for him to shoot over 100 people with before they had any chance to escape. Such a rifle is a weapon of mass destruction and should never be in the hands of civilians.
"It was the weapon that made this possible," admits Mr. Grayson. "You can't always know what is in people's heads, we can't always know what's in people's hearts, but we can know, and we do know what's in people's hands. That's why I think we have to go back and re-institute the assault weapons ban."
The Freedom Form Fear bill reinstates two sections of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 that lapsed in 2004. One section restricts the manufacturing and possession of certain dangerous semi-automatic weapons, while the other lists the semi-automatic weapons included in the ban.

Your information is far from correct. There were more murders with these firearms during the ban than ANY year since it's been lifted. The statistics show handguns kill more individuals than any other type of fire arm. GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE. Stronger background checks and common sense laws are okay but don't take guns away from law abiding citizens. The people attacking these weapons don't even understand them. They use false media info, and spread it without checking any facts.

As usual, this article's facts are incorrect. 1) Assault Weapons are defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA) of 1968, try reading it sometime, 2) The Assault Weapons Ban referenced here did nothing to lower any gun crime statistics, that's why it was allowed to expire, 3)Over 95% of 'gun crime's are committed with ILLEGALLY obtained firearms. If the writers and readers of this and similar articles would use the real documented facts, you probably would not see these biased articles.
