Bernice Davids (l) with Jewish Pavilion CEO Nancy Ludin.

Dr. Lee Adler recently arranged a photo shoot at Cascade Heights for the Jewish Pavilion. Bernice Davids was one of the models. She had been a very active volunteer for the Jewish Pavilion for many years. A few years ago, she and her husband, Joe, received the Volunteers of the Year Award. Bernice was briefly interviewed about her life prior to the photographing, and this is what the Jewish Pavilion learned.

Bernice Davids was born in Cleveland on June 3, 1930. She lived most of her life in Philadelphia and Florida. She was married to her beloved husband, Joe, for 64 years. Joe called her "Bootsie." He was an engineer with Westinghouse. Bernice has one brother, three wonderful children and two amazing grandsons. Her father worked in the sheet metal business, and her mother was a homemaker.

Bernice is quite the fashionista. Her favorite color is pink and her favorite subject in school was English. She attended John Adams High School

Bernice met Joe at a Valentine's Day Dance. She loves listening to musical renditions by Andre Bocelli, Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Celine Dion and Neal Diamond. Bernice is an amazing baker. Her favorite dessert is chocolate chip cookies. Her apple cake recipe is featured in a Jewish Pavilion booklet titled "A Guide for caregivers of the Jewish Elderly."

Bernice had a schnauzer named Shane and a bichon frise named Chablis. Her first job was with the I.R.S., and her last job was with a children's store. Her best trip was to Venice. Bernice's favorite TV show was "I Love Lucy." The first movie she ever saw featured Shirley Temple.
