A request to help the homeless

Rabbi Yanky and Chanshy Majesky (second and third from left) with Seminole County's Sheriff's officers and a volunteer at last year's Toy Drive.

Last December, the Seminole County's Sheriff's office held a Toy Drive for neglected children in partnership with Chabad of North Orlando. Following on the success of that campaign, Sheriff's Deputy Lt. Brad McDaniel turned once again to SCSO's chaplain, Rabbi Yanky Majesky, to ask for the assistance of the Jewish community, this time for the county's homeless population.

CBS's 60 Minutes put the spotlight on the homeless issue right here in our community in a segment that aired a few years ago and shocked many locals. The program highlighted how people, right here in our backyard, are living out of their cars with children who sometimes go to sleep hungry.

The community is being asked to collect the items below, which will be distributed by Deputies directly to those in need in our county.

Shorts

Pants

Underwear

Shirts

Socks

Shoes

Camping items such as bug spray

Non-perishable food items such as, trail mix, nuts, granola bars, and cereal bars

Please note, they will not be accepting used items.

Please email Rabbi@JewishNorthOrlando.com or call 407-636-5994 to drop off or you can have shipped directly to the home of Rabbi Yanky & Chanshy Majesky 1695 Glen Ethel Ln., Longwood, FL 32779.

The collection will continue until June 4.
