Stetson puts its 'shekels' where its mouth is

Stetson University spent the last four years growing its Jewish community. As shared before, Stetson now offers a Jewish studies minor, Kosher grab and go food on campus, and a thriving Jewish community at Stetson University Hillel. This investment in the Jewish community has led to an increase in enrollment, and our recognition as a university of choice among Jewish high school juniors and seniors can be seen in our ever-growing Jewish enrollment.

“We know that the Jewish community has invested in Stetson, and we want to continue to invest back in the Jewish community,” said Sam Friedman, Stetson Hillel director. “That is why we are proud to announce that all Jewish students admitted to Stetson University for enrollment beginning in Fall 2022 will receive a $3,600 renewable Stetson Hillel scholarship (students will have to maintain their academic standings to continue receiving the Hillel scholarship).”

This next level of Jewish communal engagement comes at a time when the professional Jewish staff at Stetson has also grown with the onboard of Zipporah Hruby in September. Hruby’s job, assistant director of Admissions/Hillel program coordinator, serves as concierge for Jewish families looking to send their children to Stetson. When Jewish families are interested in applying to Stetson, they connect with Hruby who guides them through the enrollment process and once they have enrolled she is able connect the incoming Jewish freshmen with the current Jewish community.

Stetson University values its Jewish families. “We know that for a Jewish family to choose Stetson means they trust Stetson to provide their child with a rigorous education in a safe environment. We also know that Jewish families are engaged, supportive and philanthropic, and we know that relationships go both ways. We are excited about this next level of Jewish recruitment at Stetson University and look forward to welcoming the Stetson University Class of 2026 this coming Fall,” said Friedman.
