Congregation Ohev Shalom Hebrew school holds "Try Us You'll Like Us" Open Houses

Sixth parents and students learn together about Tikun Olam and the importance of our responsibilities to take care of the world upon becoming a bar/bat Mitzvah.

Congregation Ohev Shalom Hebrew school welcomes prospective students and parents to “try us” because we think you will “like us.”

On Sunday, April 7 children may come and spend the day in the classroom and parents can schmooze with Education Committee members to see what Ohev Shalom’s Hebrew school is all about.

Words can’t describe what takes place at a day of Hebrew school. Children learn in an environment where they are engaged in their learning, teachers work to develop a relationship with each of their students and madrichim serve as wonderful Jewish role models who are fun to be with. The feeling is often like being at summer camp or a youth group convention.

Shabbatonim are highlights of the COS program year. Eighth graders recently spent the weekend together with the USY board, celebrating Shabbat and discussing the transition from middle school to high school.

The goal of Ohev Shalom’s Hebrew school is to create lifelong Jewish memories, create Jewish adults who can participate in Jewish life and create community. Each day starts with all of the teachers, students and madrichim gathered together either for snack and birkat hamazon on Wednesdays or a rousing rendition of Modeh Ani or on Rosh Chodesh at the flag pole wishing Happy Birthday to everyone who has a birthday that month. Parents are a vital part of successful Jewish education and there are always opportunities for parents to come and learn with their children.

The majority of the staff at COS have been together for at least 10 years and more and that sense of family that they feel among each other filters down to the children.

If you would like to attend please contact Ohev Shalom at 407-298-4650 or educator@ohevshalom.org. For more information about what Ohev Shalom has to offer, go to the website http://www.ohevshalom.org. Congregation Ohev Shalom is located at 613 Concourse Parkway S., Maitland.
