It's 'Action!' at annual JFGO meeting

On Wednesday, Aug. 21, the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando presented its annual meeting at the Maitland campus. The festive event was themed as a ‘Night at the Movies’ and delivered big results at the box office. Community members entered to a red carpet and celebratory fanfare. The stage was set, the lights were lit and soon the emcees called ‘Action!’.

The room was filled with agency executives and community members eager to learn more about the Federation’s vision for the next year. The meeting was emceed by Jeremy Udell, outgoing Federation Board treasurer and Jeannie Leavitt, incoming Federation Board secretary, who entertained the crowd all evening long.

The Bercovici Family

Three awards were given out as part of the meeting. The Jerome J. Bornstein Leadership Award was presented to Ina Porth for her outstanding leadership in the community. Jeremy Udell received the Byron B. Selber Young Leadership Award for his dedication to the community. Outgoing JCC Sports Director Eli Bercovici was honored with the Jewish Communal Service Professional Award for 31 years of exceptional service to the Orlando Jewish Community.

Jeff Gaeser, editor of the Heritage Florida Jewish News, presented its Human Service Award to Nina Oppenheim. Her husband, Dr. Ronald Oppenheim proudly accepted the award on her behalf as Nina is currently out of the country.

Olga Yorish, executive director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando, presented a “State of the Federation” address and kicked off the 2014 “Shaping the Future” campaign. The Jewish Federation of Greater is excited for the upcoming campaign year and the impact to be made on the Orlando Jewish community.
