Community-wide celebration of Israel

 

Consul General of Israel to Florida and Puerto Rico, Chaim Shacham.

Join the Central Florida community to celebrate Israel with "You Are Israel" on March 23, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Congregation Ohev Shalom, 613 Concourse Parkway South, Maitland. Co-sponsoring the event are The Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando, Jewish Community Center of Greater Orlando, Congregation Ohev Shalom, Hillel of UCF and Zionistas. On the evening prior, March 22 at 8:30, the Federation will screen the Israeli film "A Bottle in the Gaza Sea" at the Orlando Science Center, 777 E. Princeton Street.

The "You Are Israel" program on Sunday includes side sessions and keynote speaker Chaim Shacham, consulate general of Israel to Florida and Puerto.

Previous to his present appointment, Shacham served as director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Information and Internet Department. 

Shacham was born in Chicago and immigrated to Israel after completing high school. He served as an IDF armor company commander, and has a degree in international relations and political science from the State University of New York. He speaks English, Hebrew and Spanish.

Subjects included in the side sessions are advances in Israeli medicine, life saving developments of Magen David Adom, Israel hi-tech development from Ben Gurion University, how Israel is making the world a better place, living in Israel, and a UCF senior making aliyah to Israel.

Some of the participants are Drs. Jeffrey Bornstein, Mark Klafter, and Dan Lyish; Karen Hagan, executive director of Red Cross of Central Florida, who just returned from a meeting with Magen David Adom in Israel; Shani and Nir Boneh from Ben Gurion University; Jewish National Fund update; Marilyn and Frank Schwartz who divide their time between homes in Israel and Orlando; and Ari Hoffman founder of Knights for Israel.
