New youth director at Temple Israel
Eliana Gershon is Temple Israel's new youth director. Raised in Dallas, Texas, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan. Her experience in youth programming, both as a staff member and a past participant, is very strong, and she is passionate about her role in building a dynamic youth program at Temple Israel.
Gershon was previously a director for Summer in the City where she designed and facilitated murals throughout the city of Detroit, and she was a program coordinator for Playworks Detroit where she taught games and sports that promoted the values of building a healthy and safe community. She has worked with students from ages 5 to 85 and is a firm believer in utilizing interactive activities and various modes of creative learning in the classroom. She has practiced this philosophy over the past seven years working in education.
In addition to her youth director responsibilities, Gershon is also a teacher in the Meitin Religious School at Temple Israel.
