'Hanging Out' at COS Hebrew school open houses

Congregation Ohev Shalom Hebrew school will be holding open houses for any prospective students entering pre-k through seventh grade in the fall and their parents.

"The best way to see what we do is to see us in action," said Amy Geboff, director of youth and family education. Students are invited to spend a day at school on any of the following Sundays and Wednesdays: April 12, 15, 19, 22, 26, 29; and May 3, 6, 10. On any of the Sundays, Education committee members will be available to chat with parents and on either day COS staff will also be available. Hebrew school hours are Sundays 9 a.m. -12:30 p.m. and Wednesdays, 4 p.m. -6:30 p.m.

The COS leadership and staff realize that joining a synagogue is a big commitment and therefore offer the first year of Hebrew school for children in pre-k through fifth grade to non-COS members for a nonmember fee. The Hebrew school program is based on the premise that teaching is a relationship between the teachers, students, Madrichim and parents. As a result a caring community based in Jewish values is created and students are more apt to be open to learning.

Congregation Ohev Shalom, located at 613 Concourse Pkwy S, Maitland, is a conservative synagogue that welcomes all family units. In addition to Hebrew school there are many family programs and services, youth group activities, Shabbatonim, and the popular one week Camp Machaneh Ohev.

RSVP for any of the dates to "Hang Out" at Hebrew school to educasst@ohevshalom.org (The RSVP is helpful but not a must.) For more information, contact the COS office 407-298-4650.
