Meet the co-chairs of Choices

Faye Novick

Faye Novick and Hali Poteshman are having a ball as this year's Choices co-chairwomen. Why is that? Because they're shaking things up with a witty, comedic guest speaker (renowned author Jennifer Weiner), a lively Kentucky Derby-style cocktail hour, entertainment by Two Left Feet, and a convenient central location (Congregation Ohev Shalom).

"Wear a hat and be goofy," said Novick. "We are having Southern-style hors d'oeuvres and adding a little spice to a regular cocktail party. And it will make it more fun if everyone participates!"

As a wedding and bar mitzvah planner, Novick is very familiar with planning fun parties. She also helped with the logistics involving more than 90 vendors for The Jewish Pavilion's successful 2013 "Walk in the Park," although she said working on Choices was 10 times easier.

Hali Poteshman, a stay-at-home mom for her two children, has also given a great deal of her time to different events in the Jewish community. This year, while co-chairing Choices, she is also volunteering her time working behind the scenes on the Holocaust Center's Dinner of Tribute happening later this month.

Choices, however, is special to Poteshman, who attended her first event with her aunt, Seema Zimmerman, back in the mid-90s. She was amazed at how many women attend Choices. "I wasn't aware that so many Jewish women-from north, south, east and west Orlando, all over-come to this event," she said.

Choices is an event specifically for the Jewish women of this community.

"It's so important for women to stay involved. We hold the community on our shoulders," said Novick. "It's up to women to get the community together."

Poteshman followed up with, "Choices helps support Federation programs and the community while bringing Jewish women together."

Choices will be held April 14 at Congregation Ohev Shalom. Registration is at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.jfgo.org or email Meril Salzburg at choices@jfgo.org or call 407-645-5933, ext. 239.
