Hillel names Berger as senior adviser

WASHINGTON—In furtherance of the strategic “Drive to Excellence” plan, Hillel International today announced the addition of Matthew E. Berger as senior adviser for strategic communications. He assumed his post on April 20. Berger joins Hillel International with more than 15 years of experience in communications as a journalist and private consultant.

“Matthew combines strong communications skills with a deep dedication to Jewish values. His commitment to our foundational principles and skill in working with specialized audiences is the precise blend of expertise to help move Hillel forward. We’re pleased to have him join us in this important role,” said Hillel International President and CEO Eric Fingerhut.

Berger spent six years as JTA’s Washington correspondent and went on to report for Congressional Quarterly and NBC News. He has worked with numerous Jewish groups around the country and is an active member of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.

“I’ve always admired Hillel’s work and its ability to connect with the broad, pluralistic Jewish community on college campuses,” said Berger. “I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues at Hillels around the world to help build the future of the Jewish people. This is an exciting time to be a part of Hillel.”
