The current state of anti-Semitism

Dr. Deborah Lipstadt

The Holocaust Center and the Congregation of Reform Judaism will co-host an evening with Emory University professor and author Dr. Deborah Lipstadt on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at CRJ. The focus of her presentation will be the current state of anti-Semitism in the United States and abroad. She will explain how this "new" anti-Semitism is different from the religious and race-based hate of yesterday and how the global community should respond to it.

Dr. Lipstadt is an Emory University historian and author of "History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier," which chronicles her incredible victory in a libel trial held in a British court. As the English legal system requires the accused to assume the burden of proof, Lipstadt and her lawyers had to prove the mass murder of European Jews and other unwanted minorities by the Nazi regime during World War II. Her story is currently being made into a movie, with Academy Award winning actress Hillary Swank to play Lipstadt.

Tickets to this event are $18 for general admission; $10 for students; $36 for reserved seating (the first 10 rows) and can be purchased online at online at http://www.LipstadtinOrlando.com or at The Holocaust Center or CRJ, 928 Malone Drive, Orlando.

Sponsorships are also available at the website.

"We would like to thank our generous sponsors-The Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando and Dr. Eve Homburger and Brad Jacobs. Without their support, this event would not be possible," said Pam Kancher, executive director of The Holocaust Center.
