Events this weekend in Volusia and Flagler counties

The following are the events that will be held at various temples sponsored by the Endowment of the Jewish Federation of Volusia & Flagler counties. These events are free and open to the public. No Solicitation.

Community Shabbat service tonight

Everyone is cordially invited to attend the 33rd annual community-wide Shabbat Service to be held at Temple Beth-El, 579 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, Fla., 32174 on Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. This is the once a year event that most temples will be closed to come together and pray as one. Participating in the service will be Rabbi Gerald Zelermyer of Temple Beth-El and Temple Israel, Rabbi Steven David Kane of Congregation B’Nai Torah, Rabbi Zev Sonnenstein of Temple Beth Shalom of Palm Coast, Rabbi Rose Eberle of Temple Shalom, and Rabbi Reuven Silverman of Temple Israel of DeLand. The Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation is pleased to host the special Dessert Shabbat reception.  Guest speaker will be Amos Elad, the vice president for Resouce Development of Tel Aviv University. Elad has facilitated the construction of seven bomb shelters for the neediest children in Israel for the Jewish Federation and he will talk about what concerns Israel. Lynne Ritter, director of the Endowment Fund and President of the Jewish Federation Dr. Howard Pranikoff will welcome the audience. Gloria Max, executive director, will speak on how the Federation helps local needs, regardless of race or religion.

Fun for all concert 

On Sunday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m., there will be a concert with Dov Brenner at Temple Israel of DeLand, 1001 E. New York Avenue, DeLand, Fla., 32720. He is an accomplished Jewish song-writer and singer and will also have the audience join him in a sing a long. 

Concert with Cantor Gidean Zelermyer

On Monday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. at Temple Beth-El, 579 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, Fl, 32174, Temple Beth-El and Temple Israel in conjuction with the Endowment Fund of the Jewish Federation will present a very special evening with the world renowned cantor, Gidean Zelermyer. He has given concerts throughout Israel, Europe and the United States. 

Greek night in Ormond Beach

On Feb. 6, 2016, hosted at GreekTown Taverna, 150 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, Fla., 32174, there will be live entertainment from Greece. Their food is delicious and they will start taking reservations at 6 p.m. A portion of their proceeds will be donated to the Jewish Federation’s Jerry Doliner food Bank.
