Obituary - GERALD BIRMAN

 


Gerald Birman, age 85, of Orlando, passed away on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at Hospice of the Comforter, Altamonte Springs. Mr. Birman was born in Buffalo, New York, on May 31, 1930, to the late Meyer and Sarah Massmond Birman. A Staff Sergeant, he retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years of service. Following his retirement, he and his wife, the former Ruth Kohn, to whom he was married for 56 years, relocated to the Orlando area from Denver. Mr. Birman had previously been stationed in Orlando in the 1950s.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sarah (Peter) Barton of Orlando and seven grandchildren. Mr. Birman was pre-deceased by a daughter, Michelle Janet Gonzalez; his brother, Oscar Birman; and his sister, Evelyn Blumenthal.

A funeral service, with military honors, was held at Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel with Rabbi Arnold Siegel officiating. Interment was at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. In memory of Gerald Birman, the family requests contributions to Hospice of the Comforter, 605 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs 32714.
