Purim party fun for seniors

Purim Party attended by 25 at Quality Health Care in Winter Garden.  Pictured behind the resident cast members are volunteers (left to right): UCF students Joshua Bolona, Edward Matthew Coyle, Jr., Hanna Shapiro; Sue Lazarus, Francine Pollock and Ellen Abrams, and in the green jacket Jewish Pavilion Program Director Gloria Green.

The Jewish holiday Purim began early for seniors at a number of facilities in Southwest Orange County with parties sponsored by The Jewish Pavilion. Featured at each was a Purim skit retelling the story of Queen Esther and her uncle Mordechai outwitting the wicked Haman. Jewish Pavilion volunteers, facility staff and residents/patients were enlisted to play various roles in the retelling of the story. The traditional Purim pastry-hamentashan, shaped like Haman's hat-was served at the conclusion. Tasty, fun and handy goodies in a gift basket provided by the Early Childhood Center of the Rosen JCC was shared by all.

One of 11 Shalach Manot gift baskets given by children in the Early Childhood program at the Rosen JCC under Director Brenda Sher. Each class provided a basket of small gifts to give seniors at Purim parties sponsored by the Jewish Pavilion in Central and Southwest Orlando.

The Purim parties are sponsored by the Jewish Pavilion and will continue across Central Florida at over 50 nursing/independent and assisted living/ and rehabilitation facilities. Soon afterwards, Passover seders have been scheduled at over 50 of these senior facilities during April. Residents of all faiths enjoy these programs.
