Obituary - ALEXANDER S. GREENSPOON

 


Alex Greenspoon, age 91, of Maitland, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at his residence. He was born on April 5, 1925, in Danzig, Poland, to the late Leon and Bella Goldstein Greenspoon. A survivor of World War II and the DP Camps, Alex and his family were sponsored by his uncle, Hymie, who was living in Canada. Upon arrival in Montreal in 1948, Alex was accepted to McGill University. He graduated in 1951 with a degree in Civil Engineering. It was the same year that he opened his own business, Coronation Construction, named in honor of the newly crowned Queen Elizabeth II.

On Dec. 20, 1970, in Montreal, Alex, now a father of two teenage sons, married the former Sheila Mittelman, his wife of nearly 46 years who survives him, and soon became a father of two more sons. In 1979, Alex and Sheila relocated to the Orlando area, where they became members of Congregation Ohev Shalom.

A dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather, Alex is survived by his wife, Sheila; his sons, Leonard (Ellen) of Toronto, Eric of Toronto, Brian (Katie) of Boca Raton and Marc of Chicago. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and his sister, Rae Zucker of Toronto. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Dov Etzioni.

A funeral service was held at the Pavilion at Ohev Shalom Cemetery with Rabbi Aaron Rubinger and Cantor Allan Robuck officiating. Burial followed in the cemetery. The family requests contributions in memory of Alexander S. Greenspoon to Congregation Ohev Shalom, 613 Concourse Parkway S., Maitland 32751 or Holocaust Memorial Research and Education Center, 851 Maitland Boulevard, Maitland 32751. Arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, 640 Lee Road, Orlando 32810.
