Mentalist headlines Federation meeting

Sidney Friedman

The 2016 Annual Meeting of the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando (JFGO), dubbed "A Meeting of the Minds," will feature America's premier mentalist, Sidney Friedman.

The annual meeting is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, on the Maitland Jewish Community Campus.

Called "the mentalist to the stars" by Forbes magazine for his many celebrity clients, Friedman will read minds and perform ESP, telepathy and premonition. In addition, those who attend will witness his unique "Music Mind Reading," where audience members think of song melodies and Friedman telepathically senses each tune then plays them on an instrument.

Friedman is a favorite of Jewish organizations across the country. In the past six years, he has performed shows for more than 160 Jewish charity events across North America, including Jewish Federations, Chabad, Hadassah and Israel Bonds. He has been featured on NBC's Today Show, ABC's The View and CBS' The Early Show, among others.

Returning as this year's "Masterminds of Ceremonies" are Jeannie Leavitt and Yeosh Bendayan.

Everyone who attends will be invited to take part in a special "Federation Mind Game" quiz, with the top scorer receiving a prize-and bragging rights as the 2016 "Federation Know-It-All."

Mind reading and brain games aside, the Annual Meeting will include some serious business as well, including election and installation of new board members and officers, as well as reports on the year in review and the year ahead by Board Chair Rhonda Forest and Executive Director Olga Yorish.

Federation also will honor "the great minds of our Jewish community" with the following awards (winners' names will be revealed in next week's edition of The Heritage):

Jerome J. Bornstein Leadership Award

Byron B. Selber Young Leadership Award

Creative Jewish Programming Award

Jewish Communal Professional Award

Community Relations Award

Federation SuperMensch Awards

Heritage Florida Jewish News Human Service Award (winner to be announced in the July 29 edition of The Heritage).

Recognition of the 2016 Menschen of the Week, who will be inducted into the Federation's Mensch Hall of Fame.

RSVPs for JFGO's "Meeting of the Minds" will be accepted online starting July 15 at http://www.jfgo.org/meeting2016 or by calling Marisa West at 407-645-5933.
