Jewish High School choir auditions

HaZamir Orlando, the international Jewish High School choir, held a successful Open House last week, launching their inaugural 2016-17 season. Teens from all over the surrounding Orlando area and their parents attended an informational open house that ended with the group singing in beautiful four-part harmony as a group for the first time. Auditions are still ongoing and all eligible singers, grade 9-12, are welcomed to attend the first open rehearsal, held at The Roth Family Jewish Community Center on Sunday, Sept. 11, from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

HaZamir is committed to excellence, offering sophisticated, high level choral music, with talented conductors in a Jewish environment. HaZamir teens form strong bonds and friendships, united by their common interest in music.

“As a Jewish community, we cannot underestimate the significance and impact of the HaZamir experience for our teens—locally, nationally and internationally—through its deep connection to Israel. The opportunity to sing glorious music at Lincoln Center is remarkable in itself. But to be able to strengthen the connection to one’s Jewish peers in such a musical way, as well as to create lifelong friendships through HaZamir, that is priceless,” said Cantor Jacqueline Rawiszer, director of HaZamir Orlando. Cantor Rawiszer has wanted to get involved in HaZamir for years, but the timing this year was finally right for our community to start its own chapter. Two other chapters in Miami and Boca Raton have just begun their seasons and HaZamir Orlando is excited about the prospect of possible future, regional social and musical opportunities.

Hosted by The Roth Family JCC, HaZamir Orlando singers will be rehearsing weekly, learning the same Jewish choral repertoire as 35 other HaZamir chapters across the United States and Israel. The season will culminate when teens will join as one choir at a weekend festival in New York and impressive Gala Concert in David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center in New York City.

HaZamir is now in its 24th year and is a project of the Zamir Choral Foundation, Matthew Lazar, founder and director. For information on HaZamir, please visit http://www.zamirchoralfoundation.org.
