The true Israel

The Zionistas are pleased to present “Israel, Truths Everyone Should Know” with Cathy Swerdlow on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. at Temple Israel, 50 Moss Road, Winter Springs.

This presentation will counter anti-Israel narrative of lies with verifiable truths. It is imperative that people who support Israel understand and be able to articulate the truth in today’s world where opinion and wishful thinking masquerade as fact.

Cathy Swerdlow has stated, “I have always been a Zionist. In recent years I have watched as that term has been demeaned and undermined and made into a racist term—nothing could be farther from the truth. It’s frustrating to see the ease with which magical thinking has permeated the media and society.

Swerdlow was born and raised in Middletown, N.Y., a small town in New York’s lower Hudson Valley. She holds a BA in psychology from the State University of NY at Binghamton and a BS in health information management from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C.

She moved to Orlando in 1983 and upon her arrival became active in the Orlando Jewish community as a religious school teacher at various synagogues and then religious school administrator at the Congregation of Reform Judaism. She was a board member and then president of the Hebrew Day School of Central Florida (now Jewish Academy of Orlando), a board member and then president of B’nai B’rith Women (now Jewish Women International), a member of JNF Women for Israel and is Life Member of Hadassah. She is active in Women’s League for Conservative Judaism and is currently co-president of the Sisterhood at Temple Israel and Torah Fund vice president for the Florida Region of Women’s League.

She met and married David Swerdlow in July 1987 and together are the proud parents of five children, two of whom now make their home in Israel.

She is an active member of Temple Israel in Winter Springs, a congregation affiliated with the Conservative movement of Judaism. She is a weekly Torah reader and Shabbat service leader.

Swerdlow has a passion for Judaism and the Land of Israel which has led her to seek out opportunities for learning and teaching.

This program is open to the community at no cost. Donations are greatly appreciated. Reservations are required. Please contact Sandi Solomon at 407-831-0176 or sansolomon@hotmail.com.
