The Kinneret Council on Aging (KCOA), a nonprofit agency that provides ongoing programs and services to residents of Kinneret Apartments, has announced a restructuring of the meal service program to better meet the needs of its residents. Effective Dec. 12, the enhanced plan expanded the food offerings to serve the changing resident population.

As the resident population at Kinneret has remained more active while becoming more diverse, the onsite paid meal service has declined in participation to an average of 30 residents daily out of over 330 total residents. Meal service will be outsourced to Orlando Lutheran Towers and will remain available Monday-Friday at a similar fee. Morning coffee and breads are now being provided and opportunities for additional holiday meals and themed activities are being added. In addition, the onsite Farmer's Market, which offers free produce, is being expanded to twice a month. Funds used to previously support the kitchen will now be used to support these new and enhanced programs.

"Many of our residents enjoy active, independent lifestyles and take part in our daily activities including excursions to grocery stores, restaurants and area malls. Onsite activities include the group exercise of yoga and chair aerobics, fashion shows and bridge," explained Leslie Collin, executive administrator of KCOA. "With the restructuring of the meal program, we will offer additional food service through delivered meals and onsite food distribution for the many residents who enjoy cooking. There are also expanded opportunities for engagement over coffee and themed events," Collin added.
