Obituary - BONNIE LOU SHAMS

Funeral services for Bonnie L. Shams, age 78, who passed away on Friday, March 24, 2017, were held at Congregation of Reform Judaism, on Wednesday, March 29, with Rabbi Steven W Engel and Cantor Jacqueline Rawiszer officiating. Interment followed at CRJ Cemetery in Gotha. Bonnie, a Chicago native, was born on June 15, 1938, to the late Lewis and Jean Bach Harris. She moved to Atlanta with her family when she was 3 years old.

While a student at the University of Florida, she met the love of her life, Maurice (Mo) Shams, who passed away in 2014. They were married in 1962, and moved to the Orlando area to start their family, relocating to Maitland in 1969 where they have lived for nearly 50 years. Bonnie received her Bachelor of Education degree and taught high school for a number of years. Recently, she attended the 50th reunion of her students and was warmly welcomed by many with whom she has maintained contact over the years.

Bonnie and Mo and their family were members of Congregation of Reform Judaism for the last 13 years after having belonged to Congregation Ohev Shalom. Bonnie was the owner/operator of Bestenwurst Antiques in Maitland for 35 years. Above all, Bonnie treasured her family and friends.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Sid (Cristina) Shams, Randy Shams, Brian (Heather) Shams and Lainie Shams; and by her grandchildren, Reese, Ava, Ella, Bailey and Mia. She is also survived by her sister, Peggy (Arthur) Feldman and her pet dog, Amber. The family requests contributions in memory of Bonnie Shams be made to Congregation of Reform Judaism. Arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, 640 Lee Road, Orlando.
