JAO and JFS partner to deliver whole-child education

November 16, 2018

Jewish Academy of Orlando has partnered with Jewish Family Services to deliver whole-child education and parent enrichment. The arrangement includes a guidance counselor, Danielle Glover, to work with families and to provide in-class guidance lessons on a bi-weekly basis.

With curriculum designed to address the needs of the whole child, topics range from conflict resolution to developing a growth mindset. Glover tailors her sessions to address issues unique to a particular class or grade level. In addition, she is available to meet with students and parents on an individual basis.

"I am glad we can enrich the school experience from a social and emotional standpoint," stated Glover, MSW, school counselor.

The JAO/JFS partnership also supports parents of the community by offering "Parenting the Whole Child" workshops. JFS's Brenda Chappell delivers parenting sessions that address the social and emotional needs of children and their families.

"We all know that parenting is hard work. I am glad we can give our parents tools to help their children grow. By parenting through the intention of internal wholeness, parents can teach the internal strengths necessary to thrive and accomplish what they set out to do. Children and adolescents need a foundation of community and confidence more than ever in a media driven society," stated Chappell, LMHC and author of "Your Family, Your Fears, Their Future."

Chappell facilitates Parenting the Whole Child workshops every other Thursday at 8:15 a.m. The sessions are open to the community.

"We are delighted to be able to support the broader JAO community by providing social and emotional enrichment to students and families," added Eric Geboff, executive director, Jewish Family Services Orlando.

"We are grateful for the contributions that our partnership with JFS brings to our students and their families," stated Alan Rusonik, head of hchool. "We look forward to finding more ways that our organizations can work together to better our children, our families and change the world."
