Scene Around

I know Chanukah is over for 2018 but I just have to share this song (to the tune of "The First Night of Christmas") with you...

"On the first night of Chanukah, someone sent to me, a warm bagel topped with cream cheese.

On the second night of Chanukah, someone

sent to me, two matzoh balls and a warm bagel topped with cream cheese.

On the third night of Chanukah, someone sent to me, three golden latkes, two matzoh balls, and a warm bagel topped with cream cheese.

On the fourth night of Chanukah, someone sent to me, four pounds of corned beef, three golden latkes, two matzoh balls, and a warm bagel topped with cream cheese.

On the fifth night of Chanukah, someone sent to me, five kosher dills, four pounds of corned beef, three golden latkes, two matzo balls, and a warm bagel topped with cream cheese.

On the sixth night of Chanukah, someone sent to me, six grandmas cooking, five kosher dills, four pounds of corned beef, three golden latkes, two matzoh balls, and a warm bagel topped with cream cheese.

On the seventh night of Chanukah, someone sent to me, seven Rabbis dancing, six grandmas cooking, five kosher dills, four pounds of corned beef, three golden latkes, two matzoh balls, and a warm bagel topped with cream cheese.

On the eighth night of Chanukah, someone sent to me, eight fiddlers fiddling, seven Rabbis dancing, six grandmas cooking, five kosher dills, four pounds of corned beef, three golden latkes, two matzoh balls, and a warm bagel topped with cream cheese!

(Oy, vey! I'm very hungry!)

Something else to sing about...

Mexico City elected its first Jewish mayor who is also a woman!

CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM PARDO, a scientist who holds a doctorate in engineering and physics, was elected mayor back in July of this year. She is the first woman, and the first Jew, to be publicly elected to the office. She previously served as secretary of the environment.

Sheinbaum, 55, is the granddaughter of Jewish immigrants from Lithuania and Bulgaria.

Mexico City, the largest city in North America, is home to about 50,000 Jews.

Jewish Pavilion Grief Support...

Did you know that the Jewish Pavilion partners with Jewish Family Services of Orlando for grief support groups with a Jewish perspective throughout the year? Contact the Jewish Pavilion when you're ready.

The Jewish Pavilion reports that their "Autumn Grief Support group is doing well." (They thank all who are attending.)

The next group will be organized by Jewish Family Services and will begin on Jan. 17, 2019.

It will be held at Lowndes Law Firm and will run for six weeks.

Please contact JEANETTE BROWNSTEIN at 407-644-7593 or Jeanette.brownstein@JFSOrlando.org. for further information.

A dear friend is back in town...

I'm talking about LEWIS FALLON, who moved recently from here in Orlando where he lived with his spouse for many years, and now, as a widower, is living in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Lew, a retired Marine who served in Korea and when retired from service, worked at Kinneret, came back to town to spend Thanksgiving with his son and daughter-in-law, and old friends.

He spent time with some not-so-old friends too, like myself (watch it!), and others he met at our Grief Group.

Hopefully, he will return soon!

Shout outs...

What would you want for a server? Well... he (male) should be efficient, kind, caring and cute!

If you dine at the Outback Steak House on Aloma Avenue, Winter Park, just ask to be served by TAYLOR BYRD and you will have all those traits.

And what would you want for an auto mechanic? Well... he (male) should be efficient, kind, caring and cute! (I'm getting terrible in my old age!!)

Recently, I took my car in to AutoNation Toyota in Winter Park and asked for BOBBY GOBIN, assistant service manager. He was just the BEST! And I didn't have to wait long!

(Okay... I know... I am old enough to be their grandma...oops sister, but they do deserve a shout-out for their great service.)

The Roth Family JCC...

One for the road...

A message from the pilot

"Ladies, gentlemen and children. Sholem Aleichem to you all. This is your pilot, Captain Daniel Himmelfarb, speaking. On behalf of El Al airways, my crew and I welcome you on board this flight to Tel Aviv. We will do all we can, God willing, to make sure you have a great flight with us this afternoon. But if, God forbid, by some remote eventuality, we run into some trouble, please keep calm and don't panic. You'll find your life jacket under your seat and if you need to put it on, please wear it in the best of health. Thank you.
