Credentials and viewpoints

December 14, 2018

Dear Editor:

In response to the letter written by Larry Gutter and Debbie Meitin in the Nov. 30 issue. These writers imply that the Heritage “once again” has committed some kind of serious journalistic flaw by presenting a view they label as “right” and where the authors are not tagged by any “identification of their affiliation, organization, etc. It helps immensely to know the background and perspective of the writer when we read an article.”

Apparently the authors commit the same mistake by failing to identify themselves according to the same criteria they demand from others. I fail to understand how the views or quality of any editorial opinion stand or fall other than by the standard of good writing and careful research backed up by verifiable credible sources.

It is indeed amazing, that Caroline Glick, one of the most respected journalists in Israel, and along with former Israeli ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren, are two of the most recognizable Israeli figures in public life who were born in the United States, needs a “teudat kashrut” (certificate of liberal “Kosher” acceptability).

Caroline Glick is the deputy managing editor of the Jerusalem Post and is a Senior Fellow for Middle East Affairs of the Washington, D.C. based Center for Security Policy.

As for myself, I have had approximately 15 opinion pieces published in the Heritage, many of them dealing with popular culture in Israel, the different Jewish communities in the Diaspora, especially Denmark, and the Hebrew language with no identifiable political message.

I lived in Israel for 11 years, was a professional translator, taught modern Hebrew at UCF and the Jews Free School in London, am the author of six published books and my website is open to scrutiny at nberdichevsky.com

Like so many of the Jews I mentioned in my last article, I started out as a liberal Democrat in my high school days and eventually left that party and its current pandering to those who demonize Israel or are determined to show their feigned “impartiality.”
