DNA success stories from an expert

Noted Jewish genealogist Lara Diamond will share her compelling experiences and extensive knowledge of DNA and genealogy on Sunday, March 17, noon, at the next Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Orlando meeting. The event will be held at the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center, 851 N. Maitland Ave., Maitland.

Diamond ‘s 25 years of genealogy research in her Jewish ancestry enabled her to find fascinating tales of her progenitors. She has thousands of people who read her blog, and follow her on social media. The meeting is free and open to the public.

Diamond has been doing genealogy since she was a teenager, and is an expert source in DNA for Jewish genealogy, and researching DNA in endogamous populations. She travels the world to share her interest and knowledge, and is sure to provide information that will help you in your family history. Her topic is “DNA successes in—and in spite of endogamy.”

Diamond has traced all branches of her family back to Europe. Most of her research is in modern-day Ukraine, with a smattering of Belarus and Poland. She is president of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Maryland, leads JewishGen’s Subcarpathian SIG, is on Ukraine SIG’s board of directors, and runs several town-focused projects to collect documentation to assist all those researching ancestors from common towns. She regularly lectures on Jewish genealogy, Eastern European research, and genetic genealogy. Find her blog at http://larasgenealogy.blogspotcom and follow her on Twitter (@larasgenealogy).

Light refreshments will be served. Time will be reserved for meeting new members, mentoring, and carrying out your own research. Bring your laptop to work on your own or with a mentor.
