Peace of mind

Stories from the Orlando Senior Help Desk

Celeste Thomas was having a wonderful conversation at the Chamber of Commerce breakfast when her phone rang. Her mother's caregiver was going out of town for the holidays and she needed to find a replacement quickly. The caregiver also informed her she would not be continuing this assignment after the first of the year.

You could see Thomas's mood change immediately. She had six days to find a holiday replacement and then start looking for a permanent caregiver. Her mother loved this aide and would miss her tremendously. It had been difficult to find someone her mother liked and now the search had to start again.

When Thomas's mother first needed care in Daytona Beach, she called Nancy Ludin of the Jewish Pavilion and Orlando Senior Help Desk to see if she could recommend someone. Ludin reviewed the home health sponsors and found one with a location in Daytona Beach, which she gladly recommended. Thomas was very happy with the company and gave them a call again. That same day Thomas's mother had a new caregiver who would work through the holidays and continue on after the first of the year.
