Ruth Bader Ginsburg

She was special ...

And she will go down in history, for sure. I refer to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who recently passed away. She was an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.

Ginsburg was nominated by President BILL CLINTON on June 14, 1993 (my birthday!) and has served since Aug. 10, 1993. until just last week. She was born in Brooklyn (like me) and was generally viewed as belonging to the liberal wing of the court.

Of course, she should be buried at Arlington National Cemetery and I expect she will be. She spent most of her legal career as an advocate for gender equality and women's rights.

Ruth Bader Ginsberg will surely be missed!

More disturbing news ...

I read this a few days ago in the World Jewry Digest and pass it along to you:

"The WJC deplored the five biased resolutions against Israel adopted in June by the UN Human Rights Council.

Four of these texts were included under the Council's notorious agenda item 7, the only item that singles out only one UN member state: Israel.

WJC President Ambassador RONALD S. LAUDER condemned the UN body's obsessive focus on Israel. 'It is completely absurd,' he said, 'that during this unprecedented crisis, when Israel has been widely praised for its successful management of the COVID-19 pandemic, including extending lifesaving humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians, the Human Rights Council has decided to continue its one-sided attacks against the Jewish state.'

The cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians was explicitly lauded by NICKOLAY MIADENOV, the UN special coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process. The HRC's bias is now more glaring than ever before.

As usual, little mention was made of violations committed by the terrorist group Hamas, such as the firing of rockets against Israeli civilians, or transgressions committed by the Palestinian Authority. Rather, the Council continued its long, one-sided anti-Israel tirade, without any regard for the real facts on the ground.

Amb. Lauder praised Australia, which voted against all five draft resolutions. In addition, he recognized the objections to some of the drafts by several countries, including Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Fiji, Germany, Marshall Islands, Togo and Ukraine. He said 'For the council to fully live up to its potential, more countries need to speak up and oppose these one-sided resolutions. Such a necessary and principled stance will hopefully lead to this body adopting resolutions that accurately reflect events in an impartial manner.'"

Jewish Pavilion Mensches ...

I received the following from Jewish Pavilion CEO, NANCY LUDIN:

"Kudos to PAULA STREIMISH and LINDA GERC, volunteers extraordinaire, who prepared 350 Rosh Hashanah gift bags for the Jewish Pavilion.

The bags were delivered to Jewish seniors in independent and assisted living communities and skilled nursing facilities in Central Florida. The team put in more than a dozen hours of volunteer work preparing the gift bags.

Special thanks to the Pargh Foundation for their grant to fund this wonderful project.

Bag contents included a round raison challah, kosher grape juice, apple snacks, a honey straw, coloring pages, a Jewish calendar from Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, several New Year's cards and a high holiday service booklet that corresponded with the Jewish Pavilion Rosh Hashanah Zoom service.

An important repeat ...

Yes, my favorite show, well worth repeating!

I refer to "The Dazzling Divas."

The Divas will return to the stage with a new show on Saturday, October 10th at the VFW Longwood, 1520 N. Ronald Regan Blvd. for two shows! One will be at 3pm and one at 6pm.

The cost is only $12 per person. Snacks will be available. RSVP to 407-670-4418.

The beautiful (oh darn!) entertainers are KENNY LEE, KRYSTAL VIASSE, RAMONA DE WHORE, GERALDINE JONES, JOSLYNN JONES, INDIA MIRAGE, ALEIGH VALENTINA and BJ STEPHENS.

(Getting old is NOT for sissies. I've said that many, many times. Not only are these entertainers prettier than me, they are also YOUNGER! Of course, I can still perform, but I have WRINKLES!!)

And speaking of performers ...

I was lucky enough to see a favorite performer of mine on television recently.

He is Harvey Herschel Korman (his real name) and of course, Jewish!

It was a replay of the CAROL BURNETT television show and I was so lucky to catch it! He is gone now but was always so entertaining that I will never forget him.

The Roth Family Jewish Community Center ...

Musical Theater:

For grades 2-8. The world's most beloved puppet comes to life in Once Upon a Pine: The Adventures of Pinocchio, a humorous and heartfelt adaptation of the Carlo Collodi classic. Filled with memorable characters and magical adventures, "Once Upon a Pine" reminds audiences of the importance of love, friendship and honesty.

One for the road ...

"Ladies and gentlemen," the stage manager announces, "I am terribly sorry to tell you that the great actor Moshe Strauss has had a fatal stroke in his dressing room and we cannot continue tonight's performance."

A woman's voice from the 2nd balcony cries out, "Quick, give him an enema!"

"Lady," says the manager, "the stroke was fatal."

"So give him an enema!" the woman shouts again.

"Strauss is dead. An enema can't possibly help."

The voice from the balcony, "It couldn't hurt!"
