Hadassah Orlando hosts author, theatre producer Yvonne David

April 29, 2022

Hadassah Orlando presents internationally recognized author and theatrical producer Yvonne David at its May 3 monthly in-person meeting at 11:30 a.m. at Congregation Ohev Shalom, 613 Concourse Parkway South, Maitland.

Yvonne David was born in Nairobi, Kenya, raised there and in London, England. Passion for language and literature has long been at the center of David's life. Her qualifications from the Language Tuition Centre in London, England, include interpreter/translator in French and English. She earned a degree in English and Organizational Communications, graduating summa cum laude from Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida. Her publishing career began with writing newspaper and magazine articles reaching audiences worldwide. She continued with the first of her four Jewish-themed historical fiction books in the Apple Tree Series. The series was inspired by her son and set in the majestic Catskill Mountains of upstate New York around the turn of the century in 1910 through 1967.

"Out of the Apple Orchard," illustrated by Lyn Rodden (Arbiter Press), won a global Independent Publisher Book Awards for Multicultural Fiction - Children's Honorable Mention and has been adapted for the stage by award-winning playwright Ellen W. Kaplan. This work showcases a Jewish family who had to flee Lithuania because of antisemitism and was fortunate to reach New York City in America with its religious freedoms and golden opportunities. The theme of hopeful new beginnings is especially pertinent today.

Co-producing the Off-Broadway production of "Out of the Apple Orchard," directed by Nicole Raphael of The Mesaper Theatre, Yvonne is launching "The Night Sky Lined with Silver," illustrated by Robert Sauber, the second book in her children's series, in conjunction with the New York premiere this fall. Her first upmarket fiction book is also complete. "A Life Refashioned" took her many years to research and write, necessitating several trips back to Paris and London. David enjoys reading, traveling, and making a difference through creative expression.

Reservations are required. Admission is $18. Please RSVP to Nancy Greenfield at nancyg357@yahoo.com or call 407-415-6892.
