Obituary - SYDNEY WEIMER

Sydney Weimer of Fern Park, sister of Genie Blaher, passed away on Aug. 9, 2022. She was just shy of her 80th birthday. Sydney was born Oct. 17, 1942, in Philadelphia, to Oscar and Mildred Goldfarb, z”l.

While her children were still very young, Sydney returned to school to become a nurse, excelling in all of her classes and clinical rotations. Upon completing her studies and obtaining her degree, Sydney served as a Registered Nurse primarily in hospital intensive care units and for hospice agencies for over 50 years, beginning in New York and continuing in Colorado and Central Florida. Her conscientiousness and dedication to her patients earned her the honor of being a finalist for the Florence Nightingale Nursing Award while residing in Colorado She continued to work in the field until her own health issues prevented her from doing so during the last few years of her life.

Dedicated to animal welfare, Sydney fostered cats, raccoons and other critters, and served rescue agencies during her years in Colorado. She and her late husband also acted as foster parents in the Denver area. Her warmth and empathetic nature were integral parts in making her the matriarch of her generation of the family.

Sydney is survived by her sister Genie (Neal); daughter, Valeria Lesley Clarke (Stephen) of Cottage Grove, Oregon, and son, Peter Mainwald of Santa Clara, California; and two grandchildren: Daniel Mainwald and Cas Mainwald Burke, along with her two nephews and numerous cousins. She also was predeceased by her older brother, Leonard Goldfarb.

A private memorial service was held on August 16, 2022, at the Beth

Shalom Memorial Chapel in Orlando
