Pop them into the freezer and sure enough, you had a frozen, scoopable “ice cream” that was healthy, vegan and sugar-free. And, like most viral recipes, banana ice cream was soon replaced by the next food trend, and the one after that, and so on. But it’s back, with a ta...

Like most Jewish holidays, Rosh Hashanah brings to mind certain traditional food customs-the most well-known being the dipping of apples in honey. And while a classic apple pie or cake is a lovely way to commemorate our hopes for a "sweet new year," I thought it would be fun to change things up a bit. These apple and honey pie "pops" are a cinch to make-and even more fun to eat! (The Nosher via JTA)-In thinking about "Jewish" desserts, certain dishes immediately come to mind: Babka. Rugelach. Hamantaschen. And, if you ask me, the black and white cookie. So I did some research and discovered that the iconic cookie has ties to Glaser's Bake Shop on Manhattan's Upper East Side, which opened in 1902. Now I don't date back quite that far, but I can unequivocally claim a lifelong love affair with the black and... Full story

Something about the sweet, creamy filling, rich chocolate chips and crunchy shell has always been the trifecta of what a dessert should be. So why not put that delicious filling into an iconic Jewish pastry-hamantaschen? As it turns out, this is a pretty... Full story

(The Nosher via JTA)-Passover brings the same challenge each year-especially for the baker. How do you make an array of delicious and unique desserts without using any flour (or any other leavening ingredients, for that matter)? This task is additionally complicated by the fact that dairy is often off limits, too. So when I find a recipe that works-and that my family agrees is a "keeper"-I tend to bring it back year after year. And this sponge cake is no exception. Moist and deeply flavorful,... Full story
