She was born on March 18, 1945, in Salisbury, Zimbabwe, daughter of the late Avraham and Felice Alhadeff Amato. She earned her associates degree and worked as an accountant in human resources. Alvin M. Sarnoff, DDS, age 93, of Longwood, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs. Born in New York City on Aug. 30, 1924, he was a son of the late Julius and Martha Sapirstein Sarnoff. He was graduate of New York University College of Dentistry and served in the US Army during WWII in Europe. BOSTON (JTA)-A synagogue, a Jewish summer camp and the wider Boston community are mourning two teenage best friends who died Feb. 10 after being struck by a car. Sawyer, who changed her name from Rosie Cohen, was considered the oldest working actress in Hollywood and oldest member of the Screen Actors Guild and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the time of her death. Norman Salinsky, age 79, of Poinciana, passed away on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at Poinciana Medical Center. He was born on July 28, 1938, in Bronx, New York, to the late Abraham and Rebecca Cohen Salinsky. JERUSALEM (JTA)-Aharon Appelfeld, an Israeli author who published more than 45 books in Hebrew and won his country's top prize for literature, has died. Appelfeld, a Holocaust survivor, died early Thursday. He was 85. His most recent book was published three months ago; his books were translated into many languages.
