  • Orlando teens attend new member convention

    Over the Jan. 30-Feb. 1 weekend, 40 Orlando BBYO members attended a weekend retreat in Lake Placid, Fla., with other teens from throughout the state of Florida. The convention featured a learning track for all new members, partnered with an advanced leadership track for teens that held chapter board positions.     On Jan. 28, J.O.IN. Orlando launched its Young Jewish Professional Network with a Brews and Jews event held at The Citrus Club in Downtown Orlando.     On Friday, Jan. 31 a Tu B'Shevat seder sprung up at Brookdale Island Lake in Longwood with the help of the Jewish Pavilion.     On Dec. 28, 2014, the members of Congregation Sinai and their spiritual leaders, Joe and Lynn Goldovitz, met to clean their large Torah scroll to prepare it for repair and restorations, which will take place in the spring.     On Saturday, Jan. 24, 33 students from the Jewish Academy of Orlando sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" prior to the start of the Orlando Solar Bears hockey game. This merit scholarship seeks upcoming sixth- to eighth-grade students who exemplify high academic achievement and are well-rounded individuals.
