Temple L'Chayim Synagogue is now settled in its permanent home in Clermont. They had a Torah Walk on Friday evening, May 23, and even their oldest member, Millie Altholz, 99, joined in the walk. In January 2013, new Maitland resident, Amy McCully and her husband Kyle, received a postcard in the mail advertising the Roth Jewish Community Center of Greater Orlando's sports & fitness programs. Residents of Chambrel Island Lake and Southland Suites were welcomed as guests to a tea party at Machaneh Ohev. Camp Director Amy Geboff coordinated this program along with Jewish Pavilion Program Director Emily Newman to join the seniors with the 7th and 8th graders of Machaneh Ohev. Yvonne David suffered the loss of her father last September, and because she was swept up in her grief, she joined a grief support group sponsored by VITAS and the Jewish Pavilioin. Moshe Pelli, professor and program director of the Judaic Studies Program, is the 2014 winner of the AJL Judaica Bibliography Award. The award, funded by Eric Chaim Kline of Los Angeles, was established to encourage the publication of outstanding Judaica bibliographies. While the weather outside was cloudy and showers were sporadic, close to 50 golfers happily gathered for the second annual Pavilion Golf Society Tournament on Sunday, June 1, at Alaqua Country Club. Thanks to sponsorships from Fifth Third Bank, IOA, Sonny's BBQ, advertisers and hole sponsors, the Jewish Pavilion raised over $16,000 to support the Orlando Senior Help Desk. Back by popular demand, a troupe of Israeli Tzofim, Scouts, will perform in Ocala on June 22 at 7 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 7171 SW Highway 200 in Ocala. The performance will feature songs in Hebrew, Yiddish and English sung by the 16-17 year old Scouts showcasing the diversity and the uniqueness of the State of Israel. The Jewish Pavilion is always certain to engage all members of the family in all parts of residents' lives as much as possible. Memorial Day at the Pavilion is not just an extended weekend to barbeque and enjoy the sun at the beach but a time for celebration to honor U.S. soldiers. The members of the class brought family members to celebrate their graduation from this prestigious leadership program. The children of the Gan Rishonim Four's class at the Roth Jewish Community Center's Richard S. The Jewish Community of Marion County was fortunate to complete a new Torah on Sunday, June 1. To celebrate this auspicious occasion, the community joined together to welcome a brand new Sefer Torah with a completion and dedication ceremony. For more than 15 years, Boy Scout Troop 641 has had a tradition of honoring our Veterans. This Memorial Day, Scouts lined up for the annual salute to our War Veterans at Woodlawn Cemetery in Gotha. The Scouts marched behind the Orange County Sheriffs Honor Guard and an ROTC Honor Guard. The Scouts also assisted by passing out cold water to those in attendance.
