Dr. Ken Hanson's dose of history at Temple Israel

Back by popular demand, Dr. Ken Hanson returns to Temple Israel on Saturday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. to bring the Dead Sea Scrolls to life. and Dr. Hanson's entertaining presentation, followed by dessert, refreshments, and a book signing will be held in the Roth Social Hall for Havdalah. Tickets are $10 for individuals and $18 for couples, with a $5 cash donation for wine and beer.

This time, the topic of his presentation is "The 2000-Year-Old Man." A "space-time warp" has transported a hapless member of the ancient Judean sect, known as the Essenes, into the 21st century. While trying to find his way back to the past, the man is co-opted into disseminating a series of "Desert Disciplines"-straight from the Dead Sea Scrolls-for ordering and maximizing life to its fullest potential.

In February, Dr. Hanson took the audience at Temple Israel on the adventure of "Jerusalem Jones and the Mystery of the Dead Sea Scrolls," as he recounted his odyssey from Chicago, as a wide-eyed undergraduate, to Jerusalem, as an inspired scholar, seeking out the mysteries of the 2,000-year-old scrolls. Changing costumes on stage, he morphed into a host of characters to show this journey of discovery to more than 50 attendees, and his March presentation promises to be just as enjoyable and educational.

"It was both entertaining and informative. I learned so much in a way that I am sure I will remember for a long time," said Michelle Bilsky, a Temple Israel member who attended the Feb. 15 event.
