Military assistance to Israel is a winning situation

Dear Editor:

There seems to be a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding concerning the United States government’s allocation of the sum of $3,800,000,000 of military assistance to the State of Israel for defense purposes.

In reality, only 20 percent, or $760,000,000, leaves the United States. These funds can be used to purchase other military goods and services from other U.S.-approved nations. Of the remaining funds, $3,040,000,000 is designated to be used to purchase U.S.-manufactured military equipment. Those funds never leave the United States. In reality, it is really the U.S. military that gets the advantage. The Israeli military industrial complex does much of the research and development work to improve the products delivered to Israel. It is the Israeli improvements and advancements that are incorporated into the manufacturing of the items purchased by Israel that are manufactured here in the United States. Companies like Boeing, Lockheed-Martin and many others benefit from the introduced Israeli technology, the Israeli improvements that are needed to defend herself against the likes of Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Hamas and Yemen. No it is not Israel that benefits from this arrangement, but it is the U.S. Military-Industrial complex that also benefits. Remember that.

Urge your representatives and senators in Washington to continue to support this arrangement. It’s a “ no brainer” It’s a win-win situation.

Editor’s note: Since writing this letter, Laurence Morrell informed Heritage that this bill already passed the Senate. However, he did call both Florida senators to inform them about the facts.
