The adoptive grandparents program at the Jewish Pavilion

April 30, 2021

Sandi Trainor and her husband, Dick, live downtown in one of the buildings serviced by The Jewish Pavilion. They do not have grandchildren of their own, so they were eager to become “adoptive grandparents,” allowing them to connect to Jewish youth. Sandi said about her experience so far, “Being part of this wonderful program that will allow us to connect with adoptive grandkids makes us feel like we are part of a family and that we are accepted as grandparents.”

Some of their more memorable experiences include their weekly virtual visits. “We do FaceTime once a week. One time they had this idea to connect us to their real grandparents on Facetime. It was so cute. They thought we would all get along and there we all were on FaceTime together.”

The Trainors were excited to get an in-person visit recently, “When they came in town and visited us, it was wonderful. We sat on the porch and talked and played ball and it was a great time. The girls’ mom was here and supportive of the program.”

What can be gained from being a part of this program? Sandi answered, “We write letters back and forth. They make us paper-clip bracelets and send them to us and we wear them all the time. They call us Sandi-gram and Grandpa Dick.”

If you are interested in becoming a part of this inter-generational program, please contact Cantor Nina Fine at The Jewish Pavilion. Please consider donating to The Jewish Pavilion at http://www.jewishpavilion.org in order to continue offering heartwarming programs like this one.
