It is an extraordinary designation. Not because Jews simply possess books, but because our identity has always been intertwined with learning. Long before literacy became commonplace, Jewish children were taught to read. Long before universities existed, our batei midrash were filled with spirited debate, thoughtful questions, and a relentless pursuit of wisdom.
