Zelda Mirsky Newman, 88, passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Hospice of the Valley—Sherman Home, in Phoenix, Arizona. Born in Savannah on Oct. 2, 1927, she was the daughter of Fannie and Norman Mirsky. She married Solomon Max Newman on Nov. 26, 1950 in Savannah, Georgia. Mrs. Newman attended the University of Alabama and graduated with a degree in education. Mary Lavin, age 81, of Longwood, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2105, at Island Lake Center in Longwood. Mrs. Lavin was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Jan. 5, 1934, one of two daughters of the late Nathan and Sylvia Friedman Feldman. She was a homemaker and married her husband, Lloyd, in Cleveland, 63 years ago. For over 40 years, she was the caregiver for Lloyd. Glenn T. Vandewater, age 65, of Lake Mary, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, at Hospice of the Comforter, Altamonte Springs. Born in Queens, New York, on Feb. 21, 1950, he was a son of the late Daniel T. and Helen Lambert Vandewater. He was a graduate of Bernard Baruch College in New York and received his law degree from Brooklyn Law School. (JTA)—Dolph Schayes, a Jewish basketball player who was voted one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history, has died. Schayes, who had terminal cancer, died Thursday in Syracuse, New York, The New York Times reported. He was 87. Florence Kuppe, age 87, of Lake Mary, passed away at Florida Hospital-Orlando, on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015. A native of Brooklyn, New York, she was born on Aug. 31, 1928, to the late Joseph and Diana Schuster Goodman and relocated to the Orlando area from Baldwin, N.Y., many years ago. Suzan Lynda Shader passed away at Orlando Regional Medical Center on Nov. 29, 2015, from pulmonary emboli at age 61. Suzan was a long time resident of Orlando who was born at the same hospital in which she passed. Suzan was an active volunteer with The Jewish Pavilion and received their Volunteer of the Year Award in 2008. She also served on the Executive Board of the Jewish Pavilion for five years. Bernard Siegel, age 93, of Altamonte Springs, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015. Born in New York City on Feb. 21, 1922, he was the son of the late Harry and Anny Krupar Siegel.
